Safe and secure. Always.
We consider it a great privilege to deliver the energy we all need to power our lives. We have a responsibility to our customers to keep the lights on and do to it safely.
Safety is in our DNA
It’s at the heart of everything we do. Always. We are proud of our world-class safety record, continuing to be better than the Canadian Electricity Association’s (CEA) national safety average year-over-year. But don't take our word for it. Our excellent 2016 safety results tell the story.
- We sit in the top quartile for safety performance in our industry.
- We’re committed to identifying hazards before they happen to keep each other safe. Last year our employees proactively identified 1,965 potential hazards or near misses.
- In November 2016, we received two awards from the CEA in recognition of our 2015 employee safety performance.
Our safety performance considers not only our employees, but also our contractors and sub-contractors and is calculated based on incidents per hours worked. In 2016 we achieved a combined employee and contractor All Injury Frequency Rate of 0.45 with 11 injury incidents compared to 16 the previous year.
We are committed to safety, always, by continually working together to improve processes and identify opportunities to help minimize the potential for safety risks.
Keeping our system secure for everyone
As Alberta's largest electricity transmission provider, protecting our assets from both cyber and physical attacks is a key focus for all of us at AltaLink.
We believe that our employees are our best defense, so we are focused on equipping them with the tools and resources they need to minimize potential threats, including providing online training programs and an annual security open house where they can ask questions, learn about risks and understand what they can do to keep our systems and assets safe.
As our world continues to change, making sure our system is secure will remain our priority.
